by Allie Pohl
Allie Pohl's work comments on the female body in its idealized form Ð encouraging visitors to grab and squeeze the sculptural forms which reflect the measurements of the perfect woman. This exhibition will feature high definition videos, emerging sculptural forms and edition 2 of the Ideal Woman: Necklace.

Social norms and gender roles throughout history have influenced the desired physical form that the female body takes. In this digital age, women are inundated with images that culturally outline feminine beauty. Often, these commercially packaged versions of beauty are simply illusions created by advanced technology, such as digital image alteration and/or plastic surgery resulting in cookie cutter women.
“I am interested in society’s obsession with the image of ‘the perfect woman.’ The iconic figure demonstrates our culture’s desire to emulate a look that seems naturally impossible to attain. In my work, I have created an iconic female figure by dissecting the ideal woman, Barbie, to visually express my concerns.”
Allie Pohl is a candidate for a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Electronic Media Arts & Design at the University of Denver. She has shown in galleries in Denver, Colorado and New York. Her work has been featured in USA Today, Cool Hunting, Orlando Sentinel, Marie Claire and Lemon Magazine. Pohl’s artwork will be a special feature in 303 Magazine’s April issue for which she was also Co-Art Director.
