Denver fashion designer Mona Lucero will be presenting her latest work, an art show and fashion performance, "A Black & White Story" . Mona Lucero is known primarily as a fashion designer - but she is also a visual artist. In her design, she has incorporated many art elements, including drawing, screen printing, painting and found objects. In this new show, she is focusing on bringing together fashion and art in a more inclusive way.

The name, "A Black and White Story" is a play on fashion designers' "story boards", which are used to conceptualize new ideas for designer's collections. In this show, she will take the concept of story boards one step further by incorporating personal writings, drawings, and found objects.

For the accompanying fashion show/art performance, the collection will incorporate the ideas found in the story boards: introspection, love, loss, relationships, and personal evolution. Music, words and sounds will be overlaid as the models walk through the transformed space.

Communication is important. Both art and design help us to understand each other and ourselves; express who we are; what we think; and how we feel. To that end, she presents this new work.

Mona Lucero has won various awards including Best Boutique from 5280, Best Independent Boutique from Westword Magazine, Best Indy Boutiques Nationally from City Magazine based in New York City and Best Boutique from Fashion Group International. She won the Fashion Mastermind Award from Westword in 2008. She was also chosen as one of Denver's top 12 designers for the Fashion Project at Tamarac Square in 2007.
